West Coast Eagles: I think West Coast will be hard to beat again this year. They’ve only lost Mark LeCras and Scott Lycett from last year’s premiership winning team. They will regain the services of Nic Naitanui, Andrew Gaff and Brad Shepherd and with guys like Oscar Allen and Jack Petrucelle coming though with the continued emergence of guys like Dom Sheed, Willie Rioli, Liam Ryan, Dan Venables and Tom Barrass I think they will go back to back.
Dustin Martin: Dusty looked in supreme condition in the JLT Preseason and with the new rules at the centre bounce I expect him to bounce back from his year last season and bag another brownlow medal.
Gold Coast Suns: Where to for the Suns now? After yet another clean out of players over the off season it looks to be another tough season for the Gold Coast boys. They are practically starting from scratch again, however I was impressed with Stewart Dew last season as coach and hopefully he is the man to turn this failing club around, but it won’t be this season.
Team Most Likely To Surprise
Fremantle Dockers: Despite the recent media scrutiny of Jesse Hogan’s night out on the grog I think he and Rory Lobb are great recruits for Freo. They should solve Freo’s goal kicking woes. With the return of Nat Fyfe and the class of Michael Walters and the Hill bro’s in the midfield along with the continuing emergence of Andrew Brayshaw I expect them to be strong enough to make up for the loss of Lachie Neale. Throw in the ever reliable Alex Pearce and classy 2016 Bulldogs Premiership hero Joel Hamling in defence I think they can be the team to surprise in 2019.
Team Most Likely To Disappoint
St. Kilda: I looked at the Saints injury list the other day and it wasn’t as bad as I initially thought, but the players that are on their are too important to the boys from Moorabin. Jake Carlisle, new recruit Dan Hannerbury, Dylan Roberton, Billy Longer and big question marks over the health of Paddy McCartin and inspirational former captain Jack Steven has to spell trouble for the Saints. Lots of pressure now fall on to the out contract Jack Billings to finally deliver on his potential and live wire forward/midfielder Jade Gresham.
Josh Kennedy (West Coast): The new 6, 6, 6 rules is going to suit Kennedy to a tee. He was hard enough to stop on the lead as it was, but with the new starting position rules I think he will be even harder to stop. In fact if Kennedy can stay fit I think he can be the first player to kick 100 goals in a season since Buddy in 2008.
Sam Walsh (Carlton): This kid will be an absolute jet!!! It is really hard to go past the number 1 draft pick from 2018. He had an outstanding JLT Preseason and he lived up to all the hype. Has all the tools and looks to be a ready made player. Let’s hope for the Blues sake he can deliver on all the hype!
